Currently, as Flock of Birds, we are developing a new Authentication module for Mendix. Authenticating users through external oAuth providers like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace, Salesforce, Yammer, Flickr as well as through OpenID providers like myopenid.com. We can also importing contacts from Google, Yahoo or Hotmail. Support for importing friends from Facebook, followers from Twitter and contacts from LinkedIn is available. Keep in mind due to privacy regulations the providers are more conservative giving access to that information these days. Features: Connect your application with one or more social profiles Automatic login when you are already login on you social website. No need to login with your locale mx applications details, you will be redirected to your social site to log in. If you are still logged in on your social site, you will be automatically logged in the mendix account. Register a new account based on social profile Site depending: Import contacts, Feed information, Photo albums and career information What are your needs for such a module? Please contact me if your company is interested in use of this module. andries @ flockofbirds . org Kind regards, Andries Smit

I have an impression that Mendix is only for the "rich guys", and smaller companies cannot afford Mendix's licensing fees. If I am wrong, do correct me!

I have voted this up. But if this assumption is correct, this beautiful module/app won't fetch many users. Social/oauth fits where you basically want to welcome just about anyone as a user of your application. Typically, if you put in 100k+ into your website development, you want to restrict this to genuine users - except if it's eCommerce, or you're charging them for something.

I'd be interested in knowing some examples where a publicly accessible, B2C site is built with Mendix. It'd help "convert" people who are still skeptical about Mendix. Doesn't have to be eCommerce.

Glad to see some passion about this idea! I didn't mean to belittle this app idea. What I meant is, Mendix and Zencart / Magento / Wordpress are in whole different league. There may be sometime before we see SEO, AdSense and Captcha for Mendix.

I would definitely be interested in this module/widget. I have worked on a number of applications that have wanted this sort of user experience. I see more and more Mendix applications that a front facing startup applications that require these sort of functionality. This sort of functionality is becoming standard across many application not just social media and people these days expect this sort of functionality from their everyday products. I can see many areas where easy sign up to an application or a product could be beneficial. For instance Insurance companies these days still ask you to enter all your personal details in order to get a quote. This can often take a long time and people will drop out of the process very quickly. If we can pull data from social authentication sites we can speed up the process probably 10 fold. Why enter information that already exists on the web??

We have recently got a request for similar requirement and it would be great to have it in the app store as stand-alone module to sign in with different social media platforms to authenticate users. If there has been an update or if anyone is working on it, please do share!
