I have changed the navigation captions from DesktopLayoutMenu but DesktopLayout menu items are not updated. And when viewing the app in the browser still hve no menu updates. How does this work in Mendix 5.3.1

In Mendix 5 you can have separate menu documents but you can also just point a menu to the project navigation. It should work pretty straightforward so I don't really understand the issue here. Did you change the captions in the correct language?

Btw I highly recommend moving to 5.3.2 due to performance issues in 5.3.1.
