I want users to be able to enter a date as ddMMyyyy (e.g. 21022017). I have tried setting a custom date format, but I get a Model Error stating 'A date picker with a custom date format cannot be editable'. I have also tried setting the custom date format in the language setting, but that changes the display of dates as well, while I would like to have those displayed as dd-MM-yyyy. So, actually I am looking for a way users can enter a date without hyphens, but it corrected afterwards. I can implement an onchange on the date-input with 'abort on validation errors' set to no, but it has some drawbacks and there might be an easier way. Any suggestions?
You could use a string field from which you parse the date to a datefield. Use the on change to check proper formatting and show validation feedback if incorrect. If correct, parse the string to a data.
The drawback is that you cannot use the datepicker.
