This idea suggests to add a roll-forward option that can be used to restore a backup AND apply each database change since that backup. Thus getting back to the most recent time possible, losing as little data as possible.
When a database becomes corrupt or deleted or needs to get restored for any reason at all, we can restore a backup of the night before. That is very nice and I do appreciate this database management by Mendix fully. There is only one downside: this means that you will have lost the all activities that have taken place since the last backup has been created.
This technique is used by ERP-platforms like SAP. It is not easy, a technical challenge and of course takes up considerable extra disk space, but imho it would be super to have this extra safety net.
